In the Box All Week

I was in the box all week and totally stoked about it. I have good momentum on my food plan, now to get my Physical Activity back up. I am now vowing to sleep in my workout clothes. How many times have you heard, read or said that those who work out first thing in the morning are the most successful at weight loss, weight maintenance and an on going active life style? I know it is a few for me so I am going to put it to the test, the O'Dark Hundred, Freezing Cold, Morning Test people.

New, new new...

I love new things, new challenges, new opportunities, new anything. I got re-newed last night in my class. We had a great visitor in town from another program in another part of the state. His honesty and willingness to ask for help from the group was inspiring. I had a great chat with my counselor and we decided that I am going to keep rock'n my current program through the holidays and then switch to Healthy Solutions in two weeks. (That means at least 3 Shakes, 2 Entrees and 5 Servings of Fruits and Vegetables a day plus at least 2000 calories burned a week.).

So renewed, new food plan coming - it is looking good right now and for the new year.

Oh, and I was down .8 last night.

UGH!, Real Food and other stories

In an effort to stay focused on the box I stopped getting creative with my meal replacements the last few weeks. I did some fun stuff to get through Thanksgiving but I found I drank more shakes if I just mixed the Chocolate 500 with water and ice in a hand shaker and started chugging. That was working for a while but the last few weeks I have had days outside the box. Each day I have outside the box gets worse and worse and it becomes harder and harder to stop eating "real food". For some reason I just have not considered my meal replacements real food. This is probably not the best perspective since I feel best when I am in the box. So if you are new to the program - DO NOT GO OUT OF THE BOX - it is so hard to get back in, especially around the holidays, birthdays, weddings, parties, work - you know the stuff that happens ALL the TIME!

My weight is down which it probably would have been even more than where I started if I was not in the program so I will keep at it and keep letting you know how it goes. I am going to go call my counselor now.

Greek Lemon Chicken Soup

A conversation in our Core Class last night led to this recipe. Our leader talked about blending a soup with an entree and someone else mentioned blending lemon juice in to the soup. It may be a little calorie dense for some but it was late at night and I needed to get in my prescription. This could easily be made with 1 packet of soup and more water. The result was filling, yummy and very fresh tasting.

Greek Lemon Chicken Soup

2 HMR 500 Chicken Soup
8 to 10 oz Hot Water
1/2 Teaspoon Powdered Chicken Broth (Caldo de Pollo is the bomb diggity)
1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano (Rub dried spices between your fingers to bring out the flavor)
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Teaspoon Dried Parsley
1 HMR Savory Chicken Entree
1 Lemon

Combine all spices and powdered broth with the packet of soup. Add the hot water while using a whisk to combine. Heat entree for 1 minute. Add soup to a blender, then add entree. Cut the lemon in half and add the juice to the blender. Use the "pulse" button on your blender to reach the desired consistency.

Mine was thick and hearty but not mushy.

Day 6 Entree of the Day

Tastier Five Bean Casserole

I think Five Bean Casserole is my favorite entree in the HMR line. I heat it up and then mix in Garlic Salt and Green Tabasco Sauce. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!

Shake & Cereal of the Day

Spiced Oatmeal Cookies

2 Pkgs. HMR Multigrain Cereal
2 Pkgs. Vanilla HMR 500
2 Tbs. Butterscotch Sugar Free Instant Pudding
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Allspice
1/2 tsp. Coconut Extract
1 C Sugar Free Ginger Ale

Mix dry ingredients then stir in Ginger Ale. Let stand 5 minutes. Mixture may seem runny but will thicken on standing. Drop by rounded Tbs onto a PAM-sprayed baking sheet, spread cookie slightly with back of spoon. Bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes. Let cool on baking sheet. Store in a tightly closed container.

Makes approx 6-7 cookies.

I had these as my dinner last night. They are super filling. I could have easily saved half the cookies for breakfast this morning.

Soup of the Day w/ Entree

Macaroni & Cheese

1 HMR 500 Chicken Soup Packet
1 Chicken Parmesan Entree
A Few Tablespoons Hot Water
Salt & Pepper
2 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar

Heat entree. Mix Soup with hot water until a sauce forms. Combine entree, sauce, vinegar and salt and pepper.

I find that vinegar wakes up the flavors in packaged food and makes it taste a bit more fresh. I try to add some spice, vinegar or hot sauce to every savory HMR dish. I am missing fresh food like vegetables and fruit the most right now on Day 5 of my journey. Good thing I can add those later in the program.

Some Goals

I suppose if I want to motivate others I should lay out some goals for the world to see. I weighed in last week at 233lbs. We will see on Thursday how much I have lost this week. My best bet is 4lbs to 6 lbs. Since I have had some recently discovered thyroid problems my expectations are not very high, I would be happy with one pound.

I was on weight watchers for several months and lost some weight but then gained 12lbs. only to lose it when I had a virus for four weeks. After the virus I just started gaining again but they had discovered the hypothyroidism by then so I got on meds and weight has stayed steady since then.

Knowing that I have hypothyroidism and even on medication can have a very, very hard time losing weight I have been willing to try what seems like a drastic program like HMR.

I will try to post a groovy weight loss tracker visual on my site soon.

Day 2 Shake of the Day

Pumpkin Pie Spice Shake

2 HMR 500 Vanilla Shakes
8 to 12 oz Water
7 Ice Cubes
2 Teaspoons Pumpkin Pie Spice

Blend Water and ice cubes in a blender until a nice slush is achieved. Add shakes and spice and blend until smooth.

This was very, very tasty. It sustained me while my family ate McDonald's in the car right next to me.

In the Begining

I am on Day Four of a medically supervised diet program that my doctor referred me to. So far so good. There are several sites I have found of others on this adventure and I thought it might motivate me to start my own little site.

I am a total foodie, love to cook and hate to diet so this should be interesting. The few things I have learned in my first weekly class have totally blown my mind. These people want me to eat MORE. That's right, as many shakes, cereal, soup - I can eat as many as I want. This was the first surprise and difference with every other plan I have ever been on. Then the guy tells me that most people don't change their habits around food. For example, if you are a late night eater, you will probably always be a late night eater so plan on it. Plan to have some soup or a shake late at night.

OK, that was new!

So I started on a Friday. I did my 10 minutes of walking, I drank my shakes, drank my soup, ate some cereal, had an entree. I made it. It was easier than I thought it would be. On Saturday I had to work on a charity event at a farm of all places. I ma de it through that too, we even went to Seaworld in the afternoon. I was able to do it with a chilled shake ready to go in my thermos. Then came Sunday. I have dieted enough to know that the third day is the hardest for me. If I can make it past three days I can go a long time. We were at home most of the day watching football and playing with our daughter. The day dragged on and I wanted to munch but once again, I made it. This thing really can be done.

On Thursday I find out how much weight I have lost in my first week. I am very excited about that and even more excited to learn more.
